Ashlyn Darter

Ashlyn graduated from the University of Oklahoma in December 2023 with a degree in Economics. Ashlyn’s motivation for founding Operation Halo is deeply personal. While in college, she nearly lost her mother to domestic violence—a traumatic experience that forever changed both of their lives. During an intense legal battle with her mother’s abuser, Ashlyn was granted temporary emergency guardianship, and faced threats to her own safety while enduring psychological, emotional, financial, and even physical abuse. When she lost the guardianship in July 2024, her heartbreak brought a deeper awareness of the challenges faced by both direct and indirect victims of domestic violence, and, for her own safety, she made the difficult decision to step back from her relationship with her mother for the time being.
These experiences, along with others involving stalking, sexual assault, and harassment, have shown her how critical it is for young women to have safe spaces to discuss personal safety, healthy relationships, and overall wellness—ideally before a crisis occurs. She wishes her mother would have had a resource like this when she was 16 years old to help her learn about toxic relationships. Her passion for eliminating domestic violence and sexual assault—issues that are deeply personal to her—drove her to recruit a dedicated team and build the infrastructure for Operation Halo. Ashlyn has also traveled extensively, studying, volunteering, and pondering women’s issues across the globe. She has been to 15 countries and counting. She is deeply grateful for the support she’s received, especially from her father and Co-founder, Mike, whose encouragement and influence has been invaluable since she was a child. Ashlyn firmly believes that even the darkest moments can give rise to hope and positive change, and she looks forward to making a meaningful impact through her work.
